The police carried out preliminary investigations to discover the cause of the accident. An unidentified 29-year-old man from Brampton drove the Freightliner and was going slowly. All of a sudden, Diehl’s vehicle hit the Freightliner at the rear. After the impact of the collision, both vehicles rested in the right lane of the I-75. Diehl remained trapped under his Chevrolet.

When responding officers arrived at the scene, they found him dead, while the driver of the Freightliner wasn’t injured. Both men had their seatbelts on when the crash occurred. The investigations also uncovered that the accident was not caused by speeding. However, it is unclear at this time if alcohol was a factor.

The officers that responded to the crash were from the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, the Monroe Township Fire Department, and the Monroe Community Ambulance.

The crash remains ongoing with officers deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Bureau heading it. According to accident reports, anyone with information on the incident can contact 734-240-7541.
