The act caused the older man to collide with an oncoming eastbound GMC Sierra. The impact of the collision left Lemons with severe injuries that claimed his life at the scene. A woman traveling with the deceased, identified as 79-year-old Katherine Lemons, sustained unspecified injuries.

The medics transported the woman to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee for treatment. The driver of the GMC identified as Arlen Simon, 67, and his passenger, Aaron Simon, 44, both of Leavenworth, did not sustain any injury.

The WSP has not discovered why the Chrysler went off the road. The investigation is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.

Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death due to the fatal injuries sustained in a car crash. The common causes of collisions, as seen in accident reports are speeding, illegal lane changes, impairments, and distracted driving.

Traffic authorities advise drivers to cultivate safety behaviors when on the road for their safety and that of other road users. Additionally, obey traffic rules and maintain a single lane when driving.
