The accident report revealed that Mahoney was walking south along Washington Road when a car struck him for reasons the authorities haven’t uncovered. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting local officials with the investigation.

There is no additional information at this time, and there’s no detail on the driver who struck Mahoney. Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not spoken to the investigators should contact them at the McDuffie County GSP office.

Accident reports show that an auto-pedestrian collision is one of the leading types of accidents in Georgia and the United States. Traffic officials frequently provide safety tips for both drivers and pedestrians to adhere to preserve lives.

The pedestrian should ensure he or she is visible to the motorist when walking by wearing bright colors. He or she should stick to the sidewalk, stay off the phone, look before taking each step, and look left-right-left before crossing.

Drivers, on their part, should ensure they maintain the speed limit and avoid driving when under the influence. They should also ensure they give pedestrians the right of way, stop at crosswalks, and be cautious when backing up.
