The Texas Department of Public Safety has released some details regarding an accident that took place on March 24, around 5 a.m. They were called to the scene along US 77, situated five miles north of Refugio.

The report indicated that 36-year-old Rayhaan Traboulay was driving south on US 77 when his 2013 Hyundai Elantra ran out of gas. It is not clear at this time what the man was doing standing outside of the driver’s side door, but a 2007 Kenworth semi was traveling southbound and struck Traboulay.

Traboulay was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident from the injuries he sustained when the semi struck him.

It is not clear from the release where the vehicle was in comparison to the road. The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the accident.

There are some measures that you can follow to stay safe if you run out of gas.

If you have called someone to bring you gas, for instance, AAA, make sure that you have your hazard lights flashing on your vehicle. Putting your car into neutral and getting it to the shoulder or off of a busy roadway can be a lifesaving action.

Equip your car with an emergency kit. You can supply it with flashing lights and a bright vest if you need to stay outside of the vehicle during a crisis, such as running out of gas.

Never assume that another motorist is going to see you on the side of the roadway.
