A routine traffic stop initiated by a trooper in Kirbyville turned into a high-speed chase on March 4. The trooper was attempting to stop a silver Mazda because it didn’t have a front license plate. As soon as he turned on his lights, the driver picked up speed and went south before entering Highway 62.

Deputies from Orange and Jasper counties pitched in to help the Texas Department of Public Safety in their pursuit.

Witnesses remarked about the speed and their fright caused by the car. Some of them indicated that the Mazda was reaching speeds of at least 90 miles per hour.

The chase came to an abrupt end when the driver attempted to pull into the parking lot of the FuelTrac gas station at the corner of Highway 62 and Interstate 10.

When the driver pulled into the lot, they lost control and ended up hitting a pole.

Police identified the driver of the car as 35-year-old Alisha Lowe. She had two passengers in the car with her. One of the passengers was identified as 26-year-old Johnathan Segeada. Segeada was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained as a result of the accident.

He will be taken to Hardin County Jail once he is medically released. He currently has an outstanding felony warrant from Hardin County on record.

Lowe was arrested at the scene and taken to the Orange County Jail. She was charged with felony evading arrest. She posted her $5,000 bond and is no longer in custody at this time.

The other passenger of the car was treated for their injuries and released. They are not facing charges.
