A black 2008 Chevy Trailblazer was heading southbound on South Cobb Drive. As it approached the intersection between the street and the private driveway, the Hyundai tried entering the road which resulted in a collision between the two vehicles.

The impact of the accident occurred on the driver’s side of the Tiburon.

Reports indicated that 17-year-old Andre Cordero of Acworth was the driver of the Hyundai Tiburon. He also had a passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old James Rosales of Kennesaw.

Cordero was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Rosales was taken to Kennestone Hospital with a serious injury. There have been no updates as to the condition of Rosales as of publication.

The driver of the Chevy Trailblazer was 38-year-old Lisa James of Powder Springs. She was also transferred to Kennestone Hospital, but only with minor injuries.

The Cobb County School District in which the teens attended have been proactive following the events of Friday night. The Principal, Matt Moody, spoke with the boys’ parents and confirmed it was okay to share the events of Friday’s accident with the faculty and students.

This was done to stop rumors of how the accident happened and the details surrounding it. He gave each of the teachers a copy of the facts to share with their first period classes.

They have added additional support for their students who may need to talk about their feelings. The students who were the most upset were offered additional small group opportunities for discussions.

The Cobb County Police Department is still investigating the accident, there has been no indication of charges being filed at this time.
