On the evening of February 8, the Georgia State Police were called to an accident in downtown Springfield between an elderly lady and a pickup truck.
The accident occurred on Laurel Street near East 2nd Street when 82-year-old Margie A. Sullivan stepped from the curb on the dark street and was accidentally hit by an oncoming pickup truck.

Sullivan was on her way to a show at the Mars Theatre with some others when the accident occurred. Sullivan was reported to have not been crossing in a designated crosswalk. The injuries sustained in the accident killed Sullivan. There were no other reports of injury from the group of people that she was with.
Although shaken, the driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the accident. They stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police fully in the investigation.
The community of Effingham Health System was shocked by the death of Sullivan. She had been a volunteer at Effingham Health System for the last 50 years. The health system plans on holding a memorial for Sullivan soon that will be fitting to the woman’s selfless service that she provided to the community in Effingham County.
Sullivan was honored in a celebration last year for their 50th celebration, but they do not consider it as being nearly enough for the woman.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook with a meaningful announcement regarding Sullivan, talking about how she would be missed but know that her death has reunited her with her husband, who had passed years ago.
There have been no funeral arrangements announced for Sullivan at this time.
The Georgia State Police have indicated that they will not be filing any charges against the driver of the pickup truck in the wake of the accident.
