Acosta was driving down the 37300 block of Pacific Highway South at approximately 9:26 a.m. local time when the big rig, which was headed northbound, lost control and veered into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes. Tragically, Acosta, 50, perished in the crash. Three other cars were involved in the terrible, tragic incident.

Two other individuals in the crash were taken to an area hospital for care for their injuries. The Washington State Patrol is performing a full inspection of the semi-truck as the probe into the accident proceeds.

DEADLY TRACTOR-TRAILER ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Liability on behalf of the truck driver seems to be quite clear in this instance and the Washington State Patrol will attempt to discover what made him swerve, hit and kill Ms. Acosta.

Different factors can lead to a tractor-trailer accident, such as loss of control of the vehicle, a tire blowout, a vehicle failure, speeding, uneven lanes, inappropriate truck maneuvering and driver fatigue. Based on data from a recent study, approximately one out of three commercial truck drivers have mild to severe sleep apnea, which affects their alertness and performance while operating their vehicles on the roadways.
