A deadly car accident took place in Phoenix on Sunday, February 16th as a driver drove the wrong way on I-10 near Phoenix. The driver who drove the wrong way and two people in a different car were killed in the accident.
The name of the wrong-way driver was 71-year-old Cornel Eugine Ard. Apparently, this man made a driving mistake, going the wrong way up the ramp to the highway. Two oncoming cars were unable to stop and prevent crashing into the 71-year-old man. As a result, a three-car accident occurred.

Although there were three fatalities in the accident, not everyone involved in the accident died. Several of the victims sustained serious injuries, but survived the impact. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The man who caused the accident was known to have severe mental illness related to old-age. Impairment from drugs or alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident. However, it is very likely that mental illness was.
Police closed the road following the accident in order to collect evidence and to clear debris from the road. The road was reopened a few hours later.
The accident was a severe tragedy and all of the victims will be mourned by the Phoenix community. All of the vehicles involved in the accident were severely damaged.
