The investigators said that the driver was fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident, driving at top speed on the service lane. He moved across the median after a turn in the roadway, and the SUV went airborne. It crossed the northbound lanes of US 75 and struck a dump truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with equipment.

The impact of the collision left Harbin with extensive wounds that ended his life at the scene. The PPD said that Torres, the driver of the flatbed, also passed away from his injuries without making it to a hospital.

The medics took the female passenger of the SUV to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of severe wounds. Her condition is unknown at the time of this report, and there’s no additional information.

Accident reports show that traffic collisions occur due to the carelessness of drivers and their disobedience to traffic rules. Law enforcement agencies advise motorists to obey traffic laws and cultivate safe behaviors for their safety and that of other road users.
