The investigators said that the factors leading to the accident are not immediately available, but they revealed that the impact ejected Montenegro from his motorcycle. The man landed in the roadway’s westbound lanes, sustained fatal injuries, and died at the scene.
The CHP said that the motorcycle remained in the eastbound lane after the occurrence, and the occupants of the two vehicles did not sustain any injury. The crash led to the closure of Woodley Avenue until about 11:05 p.m.
The investigators also closed Balboa Boulevard and Hayvenhurst Avenue on-ramps to the eastbound Ronald Reagan Freeway for an extended time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Auto-motorcycle collisions are more fatal for the motorcycle rider than the driver of a vehicle due to the bike’s open design. Riders must exercise due care and caution when on the road, ride defensively, avoid weaving in and out of traffic and lane splitting, and wear a helmet and protective apparel.
