Numerous factors contribute to motor vehicle collisions, and drivers play a role in reducing the occurrence and fatality. Aside from operating a vehicle with care and caution, drivers must ensure that they get adequate rest before going behind the wheel and avoid drinking and driving.
Distractions like eating, calling, texting, cause collisions; failure to drive within the legal speed limit, failure to maintain lane, wrong-way driving, and tailgating, also contribute. Motorists should yield to other drivers and pedestrians, and when at intersections, wait until the light turns green to proceed.
Turn using only designated exits with functional signs, and avoid turning in the middle of the roadway. Avoid road rage, look out for animals and children, and carry out frequent vehicle maintenance.
