Wilburn E. Cole, 79, died after his vehicle collided head-on with a southbound vehicle around 6:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2020.
According to Charles Hanley, a coroner from the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office, Cole was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities say Cole was driving northbound in the wrong lane on Interstate 155. He hit a southbound vehicle head-on. The accident happened near Exit 28, which is just outside of Morton, Illinois.
According to preliminary autopsy findings, Cole was killed by several blunt force injuries when he hit the other vehicle. A toxicology report is still pending, which means it is unknown if Cole had been drinking before the accident.
According to the Illinois State Police, officers arrived on the scene soon after the crash. Emma Voss, the driver of the southbound vehicle, was then life-flighted to a hospital in Peoria, Illinois.
Both the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police are still investigating the accident.
Amanda Nauman and Toni Salazar Pratt have created a GoFundMe page to help raise support for Voss’s medical bills. So far, more than $8,000 has been raised for Voss. According to the page, the goal of the GoFundMe is to support Voss’s family and cover other bills that may have arisen from the situation.
