When the police arrived on the scene Friday night, Thompson was not responsive. Officials transported Thompson to Advocate Condell Medical Center near Libertyville. Then, Thompson was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, according to the police department.
It is believed that Thompson was struck while the driver was heading west on Deerfield Road. The driver continued westbound after hitting Thompson.
Police believe the driver’s vehicle is a dark 2013-2016 Ford Escape and that the vehicle has damage to the headlights on the passenger side, grill, and fender. The vehicle has either a Titanium or SEL trim package. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver.
According to Thompson’s father, Thad Thompson, the 12-year-old escaped from his home. He was not wearing a coat or shoes when he left the house. The accident occurred before Thompson’s father could bring him back inside.
Thompson’s father is offering a $10,000 reward if the driver turns themselves in or if there is a conviction. Individuals who have any information about the accident or driver should call the Deerfield Police Department at 847-945-8636.
