The first two vehicles were heading south on Santa Fe when they crossed the path of the minivan heading east on Hill. The Lexus after the collision spun until it struck Espiritu, who was crossing the roadway.
Long Beach Police Department Lt. Robert Bernsen said that several people reported the horrific accident. When first responders arrived, they found chaotic wreckage, and Espiritu was unresponsive. The medics pronounced her dead.
The paramedics took the drivers of the Lexus and the minivan to the hospital for treatment of significant and minor injuries, respectively. The unnamed racing male motorist is in critical but stable condition. The police will present a case against him to the District’s Attorney’s Office, who will, in turn, file criminal charges.
The authorities are actively looking for the driver of the black Nissan 350Z with a slatted window at the back. The motorist fled the scene after the crash without stopping to render help. The accident report also showed that the LBPD asked anyone with information about the tragic accident to contact the station.
