The accident was a chain-reaction crash that occurred on January 17th in Vancouver.
Mr. Bigalow was the passenger in a 2004 Honda CR-V on I-205, travelling north. The vehicle was stopped in traffic behind two other vehicles at I-205 and Burton Road in Vancouver.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. local time, a white 2008 GMC Savana failed to stop, and rear-ended the CR-V, sparking a chain-reaction collision with the cars in front, per the Washington State Patrol .
The operator of the GMC was later identified as Keith Z. Ruark, 30, also of Vancouver.
Mr Bigalow was rushed to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, but was in hospice care in the Vancouver area when he perished on Monday, January 27.
The driver of the CR-V, Rovelyn N. Beiden, 27, of Longview was not hurt, nor were the drivers and passengers of the other cars involved in the incident.
DEADLY CHAIN-REACTION CRASH INVESTIGATION
Every year, approximately 37,000 people are killed – and another 2.3 million are hurt – in vehicle-related accidents in the US. A large number of these terrible incidents are carelessly caused by irresponsible driving, including road rage, tailgating, driving under the influence, distracted driving, speeding and unpredictable lane changes.
While liability on behalf of the GMC driver seems to be clear in this instance, an investigation will be led by Vancouver and Washington officials in order to determine the facts. A forensic analysis of the cars – as well as images from the accident site – will aid investigators in determining what exactly occurred that day, whether comparative liability is assigned, or whether a third party is liable for a glitch or mechanical issue
