A man arrested this week in Ukiah, California is facing elder abuse charges for allegedly assaulting an elder citizen. The suspect, Tyler Omler, 49, of Ukiah, was in custody on Tuesday, May 26, stemming from the confrontation with the victim.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said the victim called for help at precisely 11:20 p.m. The 73-year-old man informed officers that his In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) care worker assaulted him, causing serious bodily harm. The affront played out in the 800 block of Lake Mendocino Drive, where the involved parties reside.

The MCSO reports stated that Omler and the victim were in an argument when the younger man applied physical force and caused the elderly man to lose his balance. The victim collapsed onto the kitchen floor, supporting himself on his palms to break the fall. The reflex, however, left him with immediate and severe pain in his right wrist, as well as his hand.
Omler abandoned the disabled 73-year-old in the pathetic state on the kitchen floor and left for his bedroom. The victim, being unable to walk unaided due to his disabilities, barely crawled to the living room afterward and reached for a phone. It cost him roughly an hour to cover the distance and notify authorities.
Officers made the home call a few minutes later and found the suspect asleep in his bedroom. Officers said he was intoxicated from the consumption of liquor when they found him.
Deputies arrested Omler, and booked him into the Mendocino County Jail, on a charge of elder abuse resulting in bodily harm.
Jail records show they initially set the culprit’s bail at zero dollars due to an emergency state order. However, the MCSO appealed to a superior court judge, who effected an increment to $25,000.
