California Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision between a 62-year-old Tulare woman and a suspected DUI driver on March 6, in the area of Avenue 184 and Road 64. The accident occurred around 6 p.m.
Authorities released the name of the suspected DUI driver. He was identified as 27-year-old Oscar Lopez-Almeida.

Very few details describing the circumstances of the accident are available at this time. All that has been released is that there was a head-on collision between the Tulare woman and Lopez-Almeida.
The woman was declared dead at the scene of the accident. There was no report on if Lopez-Almeida sustained any injuries. His official booking date into the Tulare County Jail was March 7.
Based on the Tulare County Jail’s booking report, Lopez-Almeida is currently being held with no bond at the Bob Wiley Detention Facility.
Right now, his current charges include murder, DUI of alcohol and drugs causing injury, DUI with .20% blood-alcohol content causing injury, and a violation of probation. All of these are considered felony charges, except for his probation violation.
If he is convicted, Lopez-Almeida could be facing an extremely long prison sentence. There was not a distinction on the website if he was being charged with first or second-degree murder. A second-degree murder charge in California can carry a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
