A press release from the sheriff’s department does not say whether investigators suspect either operator was at fault for the incident. If the surviving operator, whose name was not included in the release, is declared responsible, he or she likely will need to retain the services of a top injury attorney.
Hays at about 3:30 p.m. was riding a jet ski alongside a boat on the Colorado River near Martinez Lake in Yuma County, deputies said in the release. Hays at some point “turned into the path of the boat and collided with it,” investigators said in the release.
The release did not include may details about the incident, including the moments that led to the crash. Authorities also did not say whether Hays died at the scene or was pronounced dead at an area hospital, simply stating in the release that he “sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.”
“This case is pending further investigation,” authorities said in the release. “It is currently unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision.”
No citations or charges were included in reports available Tuesday. If investigators determine they are appropriate, the person who is accused will need a top injury attorney to represent him or her at upcoming court proceedings.
