Lopez sometime after 10 a.m. Tuesday was eastbound on Interstate 94 near Half Day Road when his SUV drifted into an eastbound semi, authorities reported. Lopez then spun out, crashing into a second eastbound semi.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but Lopez and Harris were pronounced dead before they could be transported to an area hospital for treatment. A second passenger, who was not identified in car accident reports available Tuesday, also suffered significant injuries as a result of the wreck.
Authorities did not disclose the names of either semi driver, but said both were taken to an area hospital for treatment of wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigators worked at the scene for multiple hours, according to car accident reports. The eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 did not open until after 3 p.m.
Toxicology results still are pending, according to authorities. Investigators have not said whether they suspect intoxicants, speed or inattentive driving might have lead to the incident.
