Authorities said a blaze that claimed the life of a Las Vegas man and a dog late last month started as a result of a space heater that was placed too close to bedding.
Timothy Wilkerson, 58, died during a residential fire at about 7:15 a.m. March 24, according to authorities. No other injuries were reported in connection to the incident.

Firefighters on March 24 were called to home in the 1400 block of Betty Lane near Nellis Boulevard and East Owens Avenue. They reportedly arrived to the find a nearby structure fully engulfed in flames.
According to local media reports, more than one dozen fire department personnel battled the fire for about one half hour before it was extinguished.
Wilkerson and a dog were inside the structure at the time. Both died as a result of the blaze, and Wilkerson’s body was turned over to the Clark County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
The Clark County Fire Department this week revealed that the fire likely was caused by a space heater that had been placed too close to bedding. It’s unclear whether Wilkerson and the dog were residing in the structure at the time of the incident.
According to an obituary for Wilkerson published in local media outlets, he was a Teamster who worked in the Las Vegas convention trade.
“He will be lovingly remembered as a larger-than-life guy who could always make us laugh,” loved ones wrote in the obituary. “Tim was an animal lover who enjoyed having a faithful dog to accompany him in life.”
