The man came down from his vehicle and started walking across the southbound lanes of the highway. At the same time, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, driven by Te Li, was heading south on the same roadway. The man struck the victim, and he sustained extensive wounds that claimed his life at the scene.
The investigators have not discovered if the Toyota driver was impaired at the time of the accident. The investigation headed by the CHP Hollister Gilroy Area Office is still ongoing. They will release an updated accident report when they have more information.
Accident investigations show on whose side the liability in a crash lies. If the driver was negligent, he or she is liable to face criminal and/or civil trials. The former means the person might do time in jail, while the latter implies compensation to the victim’s family, but only if the court finds the driver guilty.
