One of the vehicles, the one conveying Powers and Davis, caught fire after the collision. The police said two other people sustained injuries, and the medics had to take them to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. They did not indicate the vehicle the injured two were traveling in.
The cause of the investigation is ongoing, and the La Mirada Community Sheriff will make any update available later.
Traffic collisions are not uncommon and happen for several reasons, and one of the most common causes is speeding. The Public Works Department of Los Angeles County established speed limits to provide motorists with clear driving directions. Drivers must move at a speed that facilitates safe and orderly traffic flow under normal conditions.
Additionally, California has a Basic Speed Law that states that no person shall drive a vehicle at speed higher than is reasonable or prudent and have due regard for visibility, weather, traffic, and surface and width of the highway.
