The teen athlete killed in an auto-bicycle collision in Santa Paula, California, has been identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. On Thursday, October 8th, the coroner revealed the victim’s name as Matthew Ismael Castanon, 16.
ItIn the car accident report, the Santa Paula Police Department said a sedan struck the city resident on the evening of September 23rd in the 100 block of West Santa Barbara Street. A road ambulance took Castanon to the Ventura County Medical Center.

The report disclosed that the victim was in critical condition, and later transported to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He eventually succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, October 1st. The police said that the driver of the sedan remained at the scene.
The motorist cooperated with the investigators, and they do not believe that the individual was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision. There is no additional information on the crash.
Castanon was a member of the Santa Paula Junior varsity boys basketball team and wore the No. 32 shirt as a sophomore last year. He attended Isbell Middle School and won a spelling bee as a seventh-grader, and as a sixth-grader, he was named the Most Outstanding Student. Santa Paula Athletic Director Danny Guzman described the teenager’s death as a shock, noting that the school community is still grieving. He added that the victim was respectful, polite, and hardworking. Students and parents have access to counselors to help them process the loss.
