According to the California Highway Patrol, Meunier was riding his bicycle on the right shoulder of Auberry while the motorcyclist was approaching from behind. For unknown reasons, the victim made a U-turn in front of the oncoming motorcycle and collided with it.
The impact left Meunier with extensive injuries, and he was unresponsive by the time first responders arrived. The medics pronounced the man dead and transported the unnamed motorcyclist to Community Regional Medical Center to treat minor injuries.
The police did not release any additional information about the tragic accident, and the investigation remains active.
In a bicycle-motorcycle accident, the bicyclist is more at risk than the motorcyclist. When the latter collides with a car, the rider is more likely to sustain injuries or die than a driver. With this in mind, traffic authorities advise all road users to make smart choices on the road.
Bicyclists should stick to the curbs and avoid roadways with high traffic to prevent fatal accidents. Anyone involved in a collision of this nature should make an accident report on time to give injured victims a chance at survival.
