The collision caused both drivers to sustain minor injuries, and four children, who were traveling in the minivan also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The paramedics took the minors to UC Davis and the Adventist Health Sonora for treatment.
A field test confirmed that Harris was driving under the influence, and the police arrested him on suspicion of DUI. They booked him into the Calaveras County Jail. There is currently no additional information, and the investigation remains ongoing.
A DUI offense is criminal and taken seriously by the courts in California. The courts in convicting a person would determine that he or she drove a vehicle and was intoxicated while behind the wheel.
The court would consider that the person committed an illegal act, and the commission of such actions led to bodily injury or death of another. A conviction means jail time, a fine, or both, and suspension of the person’s driving privileges.
Those involved in this kind of accident should contact a drunk driving attorney for legal advice and representation.
