The man was heading north of the highway across the Sabine River Bridge when he lost control for unknown reasons and veered off the roadway. Shannon turned left and went down an embankment at a second bridge that crosses a private pond.
The pickup rolled over and came to a final rest on its top, partially submerged in water. The Justice of the Peace, Judge Manes pronounced Shannon dead, and the authorities took his body to Grubbs Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
A single-vehicle accident is one of the types of auto crashes that occur frequently. The other kinds are two-vehicle collisions, vehicle-versus-motorcycle crashes, vehicle-versus-pedestrian accidents, and vehicle-versus-bicycle accidents.
These accidents are caused by factors like distracted driving, drunk driving, over speeding, adverse weather conditions, tailgating, and running red lights. Traffic officials advise drivers to drive carefully, obey traffic laws, maintain the speed limit, and to report car accidents immediately they occur.
