As he drove just south of the 450 North, he appears to have lost control of the vehicle. The car moved away from the roadway. McPike then seems to have overcorrected the vehicle which caused it to move left across the lanes. The Camry then collided with a driveway. The impact of the collision, at a high speed, caused the vehicle to be overturned.
The overturned vehicle collided with a second object, identified as a pole. This second impact caused the vehicle to get back on its wheels.
The crash occurred in the Rocky Run Township. McPike sustained critical injuries in the incident. By the time the first responders reached the site, he had already succumbed to his injuries. The Hancock County Coroner pronounced him dead on the scene of the crash.
ISP continues to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations, at this point, is to determine what caused McPike to lose control of the vehicle in the first place. Subsequent accident reports from the state police may reveal an exact cause of the accident.
