A man lost his life after the vehicle he was driving fell off the I-290 overpass in Elmhurst. The fatal incident took place in a suburban area of Elmhurst on Friday, October 16. The victim was identified as Jack Giannini of Wauconda.
According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, Giannini was headed west on the I-290 at the time. He was driving a 2011 Jeep utility vehicle. As he was driving along the I-290 overpass, he veered towards a side for unknown reasons. His vehicle entered a ditch at a high speed and then became airborne.

It then fell off the overpass and landed on the Grand Avenue where it collided with a second vehicle. The other vehicle hit by the Jeep was identified as a 2016 Ford utility vehicle.
Jack Giannini sustained critical injuries in the accident. Once the authorities reached the site, he was pronounced dead on the scene. The incident occurred at around 1:00 p.m.
The driver of the Ford utility vehicle was identified as Robert J. Doyle, 58, of Addison. Doyle was traveling along the Grand Avenue when Giannini hit him. The impact of the collision caused Doyle to sustain critical injuries. As the first responders arrived on the scene, Doyle was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities closed down the Grand Avenue for several hours following the accident. The road remained closed as on-site cleanup and investigation was conducted. ISP continues to investigate the incident and is trying to determine what caused Giannini to lose control of his vehicle in the first place.
