The event that led to the lawsuit against the woman occurred on Tuesday, April 14th, in the area of Evergreen Road and Pilgrim Street. The Detroit Police Department in the preliminary report revealed that Walthall killed 82-year-old Arthur Brewer in the driveway of his home.
The suspect was driving northbound on Evergreen at high speed when she crossed the double yellow lines. She passed a Department of Transportation bus, and attempted to re-enter the northbound lane. At that point, Walthall lost control of her car, struck a tree, and then Brewer’s parked vehicle in the driveway.
The prosecutors said that the deceased was unloading groceries from his car at the time. The suspect fled the scene, and by the time first responders arrived, the man was dead. The young lady later turned herself in, and the police detained and arrested her.
Walthall’s next court date is on Thursday, April 30th, for a probable cause hearing, and she would need representation from auto accident attorneys. Her preliminary hearing comes up on Thursday, May 7th, and she’ll also need legal representation.
