On Tuesday, July 7th, a fatal collision on Interstate 64 near Mascoutah and New Baden in St. Clair County, Illinois, claimed the life of a female motorist. The accident report released by the Illinois State Patrol and St. Clair County Emergency Management revealed the victim’s name as Sharon Foster, a 67-year-old resident of Collins, Missouri.
The ISP said that the crash happened close to mile marker 25 on the interstate. The event leading to the occurrence began with a tractor-trailer driven by a 40-year-old man from Potosi, Missouri. The driver and a 2020 Ford truck driven by Foster were driving west while on the same roadway.

The truck stopped because of traffic, and the tractor-trailer coming from behind failed to see it in time, and crashed into it. The collision’s impact sent the Ford off the roadway, and it caught fire, killing Foster, the only occupant. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
The occurrence led to the closure of the interstate’s westbound lane for about four hours while the ISP investigated and cleared the scene of debris. The crash remains under investigation, and the conclusion would determine if the male driver would face charges.
When a motor vehicle accident occurs, the driver with the highest degree of negligence may face a civil lawsuit, a criminal trial, or both. The charges the person would face for the criminal prosecution depends on the circumstances of the case, but they are either hit-and-run, a DUI, or vehicular manslaughter.
