Broadnax and Weatherall at about 3 a.m. Saturday were traveling in a northbound vehicle on Interstate 90 near the Rockton Road tollbooth. At some point, the driver, whose identify wasn’t made clear in car accident reports, lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle veered off the roadway and crashed into a light pole, according to authorities. Car accident reports state the vehicle rolled several times, causing both Weatherall and Broadnax to be ejected.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel before they could be transported to an area hospital for treatment. Another passenger, who was not identified in car accident reports, was wearing his seatbelt and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The Illinois State Police continues to investigate the crash. They did not say Sunday whether they suspect that speed, inattentive driving or use of intoxicants were contributing factors.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office will conduct autopsies on both Weatherall and Broadnax. The results of toxicology reports might not be available for three weeks, authorities said.
