Sean James Murray filed a lawsuit in a Las Vegas Court on Wednesday, April 8, against Spring Mountain Treatment Center. The treatment center, at 7000 W. Spring Mountain Road, denied having treated 47-year-old Renai Palmer in 2019. Murray’s wrongful death attornies are seeking damages in excess of $45,000.
The accident in question occurred on October 8, 2019, after Palmer had allegedly been a patient at Spring Mountain a week prior. On that night in October, Murray had previously exchanged Gavin with Palmer, per their custody agreement.

That night, she locked herself and the boy in an upstairs bedroom and set the room on fire. The coroner’s office ruled the fire a murder-suicide, citing the usage of accelerant in the room to facilitate the fire.
The official cause of death for both Palmer and Gavin was carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation, and burns on the body. Based on the report, Gavin sustained burn injuries on approximately 75% of his body.
Based on Murray’s claim, a week before the accident, Palmer had been admitted to Spring Mountain on a Legal 2000. In the state of Nevada, a Legal 2000 is an involuntary 72-hour psychiatric hold for patients who exhibit the behavior of harming themselves or others.
Murray’s lawsuit is blaming Spring Mountain for their negligence in releasing Palmer and not informing him that she was a danger to herself or their son. The two had separated when the boy was a year old, but had a custody agreement in place.
Due to the denial of the facility, Murray’s wrongful death attornies are currently investigating Palmer’s admittance to the hospital.
