On Thursday January 30,2020, during the evening a Cartersville Police Officer was killed in a car crash. She was not only a member of the Cartersville Police department but was also a navy veteran. She had been with the police department for two years. Prior to this she had worked for the Cobb County Police Department. She was also the mother of five children.
On Thursday evening Barnes was off duty and was driving along Georgia Highway 6 in Paulding County. According to Georgia State Patrol Barnes lost control of her vehicle. She was driving a 2011 Kia Sorrento. She was in the left lane headed eastbound. Her vehicle swerved into the North median. It over corrected which put her back into the eastbound lain where it over corrected yet again. Then it went across the median into the westbound lane. A Jeep travelling west in the left lane moved into the right lane and struck the Sorrento in the side. Then a Ford Fusion struck the Jeep in the side.

Barnes was taken to WellStar Paulding Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep was Casey Barron and she was taken to WellStar as well. Slade the driver of the Ford was also taken to WellStar.. According to news release the two other drivers involved in the accident were treated for non life threatening injuries.
Barnes husband who works for the Department of Corrections is now left with the responsibility of raising five children.
