On January 27, 2020 the Cairo Police Department attended an accident involving a six year old pedestrian. Jaden Richardson was killed at around 7:30 AM. The accident took place near King Avenue SW and Legion Avenue SW.
According to reports Jaden was killed while trying to cross the road at the intersection. Jaden was a student at Eastside Elementary School.

Reports say that Jaden had missed his school bus and was heading home because of this.
At the time of the report of the accident no charges had been laid. A follow up to the investigation indicated that no charges would be laid in regards to this accident. There is insufficient evidence to do so is what is being indicated by the Cairo Police. The driver of the vehicle that struck Jaden is 28 years old. Apparently there is no crossing guard at the intersection where Jaden was struck.
Residents in the area are upset at the result of this tragic accident and some believe that there should be patrols when the kids are heading to school.
