An Illinois man suffered serious injuries Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash at an intersection in rural Kane County, according to local authorities.
Samuel Martino, 23, of Chicago, was airlifted from the scene of the Virgil Township wreck, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department. His passenger also suffered minor injuries, but they did not require hospitalization, deputies reported.

According to car accident reports, Martino was driving north on Meredith Road near the intersection with McNulty Road at 7:30 a.m. Friday when he lost control of his vehicle. Martino’s vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole, authorities reported.
Emergency medical personnel had Martino airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. However, the wounds aren’t believed to be life threatening, according to car accident reports. An updated condition report wasn’t available Friday evening.
His passenger, identified by authorities only as a 21-year-old woman from Sycamore, also was injured. However, she was treated by emergency medical services personnel at the scene before being released.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident and the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Investigators have not said whether they believe the use of intoxicants or speeding contributed to the crash.
