A man identified as Sammie Lee Edwards sustained critical injuries after a traffic collision in Macon, Georgia, on Sunday, May 17. According to accident reports, the victim incurred the injuries when he left the vehicle he was in to help another man in the roadway.
Investigators from Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident happened on I-475 at the Tucker Road overpass at about 11:45 p.m. A man, Juan Perez, 26, was on the wheels of a Ford Explorer. The Explorer was also towing a Jeep Wrangler.

The vehicle’s tire suddenly blew out, causing Perez to lose control of the SUV. He finally stopped, blocking the center of the road and the right lane. Another driver, a woman, identified as Kadija Williams, tried to avoid a collision with the Explorer. However, her Mercedes spun, hitting the median barrier wall.
The woman’s passenger, Edwards, left the vehicle to render help to Perez. Soon after, a man, Francisco Gomez, 27, driving a Cadillac Escalade, hit Edwards, pinning him under the SUV.
Emergency Response Services arrived at the scene and found Edwards seriously wounded. They took him to the Medical Center Navicent Health, where he remains in critical condition. There were no other serious accidents reported in the crash.
