A Troy resident suffered apparently suffered traumatic injuries Saturday afternoon when he crashed an all-terrain vehicle near Bovill, authorities announced Monday. State Police said 29-year-old Roy J. Nelson sustained serious wounds in the wreck, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Friday on East Forks Road. Nelson was transported via air ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment, authorities said.
The preliminary investigation suggests Nelson was driving his ATV west on East Forks Road on Saturday evening near Idaho 8 when he came upon a curve. Nelson reportedly failed to adequately negotiate the turn, causing his ATV to veer off the roadway and tumble down an embankment.

The extent of Nelson’s injuries prompted emergency medical personnel to order a Life Flight air ambulance to take him to the Lewiston hospital, according to a press release. However, the nature and extent of Nelson’s wounds wasn’t made clear in the press release and a condition report wasn’t immediately available.
The report also failed to mention what factors might have led to the crash, though investigators did note that Nelson was not wearing a protective helmet when he lost control of the ATV.
The crash remains under investigation by the state agency.
