Jonathan Troglio, of Peoria, Illinois, was traveling north on Freeport Road with a passenger. Then, he stopped at the stop sign of the intersection of Freeport Road and Illinois Route 52. Troglio, 22, was traveling in a Dodge Ram pickup truck, according to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.
Troglio then determined that it was safe to enter the intersection. However, Steger was approaching the intersection. The semitractor-trailer was traveling too fast and was too large to stop in time. Therefore, Steger was unable to avoid striking the pickup truck with the semi.
The collision caused Steger’s semitruck to roll onto its side.
Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. However, when he was questioned, Troglio stated that he did not observe the semitruck approaching the intersection.
Both of the occupants of the Dodge pickup were uninjured. They refused medical transportation at the scene. However, Steger was transported to CGH Hospital in Sterling, Illinois, for his injuries.
Troglio received a citation for failure to yield right of way at an intersection as a result of the crash.
