When deputies arrived at the crash site, they found that Phelps was southbound. He tried to make a sharp turn when his motorcycle went off the roadway and crashed near a driveway.

When Elizabeth Ambulance service arrived at the scene, they pronounced the man dead. The accident remains under investigation, and there is no additional information at this time.

Operating a motorcycle takes a different skill set than driving a car, but the same road laws apply to both the motorcyclist or vehicle driver. A combination of consistent education, regard for traffic laws, and basic common sense goes a long way in reducing the number of fatalities on the road.

When riding a motorcycle, always wear appropriate gear and ensure the safety helmet has eye and face protection. Follow the traffic rules and regulations, and ride defensively as nearly two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents happen when drivers violate the rider’s right of way.

Complete a formal riding education program, get licensed, and take riding courses from time to time to develop riding techniques. Don’t drink and ride, and before and after operating a bike, carry out safety checks.
