Peel at about 12:55 p.m. Monday was attempting to pull onto Butternut Drive from a gas station near Shadybrook Drive, according to car accident reports. Peel pulled out in front of pickup truck traveling on Butternut Driver, and the two vehicles collided, sheriff’s department officials reported.
Peel suffered fatal injuries in the wreck, according to authorities. His passenger, a 74-year-old Leroy woman, was transported to a local hospital to be treated for wounds that aren’t believed to be life-threatening, car accident reports state.
The driver of the pickup truck a 47-year-old Hudsonville man, also was injured in the incident. However, he declined treatment for minor injuries at the scene, authorities said.
Car accident reports did not provide identifying information for Peel’s passenger or the other driver involved in the wreck.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident. They have not announced any charges or citations as a result of the crash, though authorities did say that Peel apparently failed to yield the right-of-way to the pickup driver.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by the Holland Township Fire Department, car accident reports state.
