Seventeen-year-old Lufkin resident Ricardo V. Ramirez was hospitalized for critical injuries after the crash, which occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the Lufkin Police Department. Police did not say whether Escoto will be charged with any crimes or issued citations as a result of the incident. It wasn’t clear Wednesday night whether Escoto sought representation from a car injury lawyer.
Escoto reportedly picked Ramirez up at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and the two drove north on Raguet Street. For reasons that weren’t immediately clear, Escoto lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the vehicle and overturn.
The SUV wen through a fence and hit a metal pole, which pierced the vehicle and impaled Ramirez through the arm, police said.
The first officer on the scene found Ramirez laying on the ground near the vehicle, bleeding from the serious wound. The officer used a tourniquet to attempt to stop the teen’s blood loss until he could receive emergency medical treatment at a hospital.
Lufkin police continue to investigation the incident. Depending on the results of the investigation, Escoto and his family will have to consider whether to hire a car injury lawyer.
