The impact of the car hitting the fence left the driver with fatal wounds. But the authorities did not disclose if he succumbed to his injuries at the scene or in the hospital. Rivera was traveling with two passengers identified as Jose D. Gasper Nemecio, 31, of Vancouver, and Ramon Nava Torres, 57, of Aloha, Oregon; they did not sustain any injury.
The WSP investigators said the trio were wearing seat belts, and they ruled out drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both as contributing factors. The investigation is ongoing, and there’s currently no additional information.
The presence of drugs or alcohol is not uncommon in most motor vehicle accidents. Usage of the two — separately or combined — leads to impairments that result in recklessness and speeding, and ultimately to an accident.
Traffic authorities advise drivers to desist from the two and behave responsibly when on the road. Motorists should endeavor to report car accidents when they occur and cooperate with the investigators to prevent adverse legal consequences.
