The woman was then struck a second time by a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan.
The driver of the Hyundai stopped and notified authorities of the accident. The driver of the minivan did not stop and kept going.
As of Tuesday night, authorities released that they had found the driver and the van. All that was released was that he is a 64-year-old man from Medinah.
Sariol’s next-door neighbors are grieving the loss of their friend. Israel and Char Arce saw Sariol as a sister. The couple is angry that their friend is dead because accidents have happened in the same area before.
The community is upset that the Schiller Park Police don’t enforce the speed limit through that area.
Former Schiller Park mayor deferred the problem to people not slowing down. She said that people are always in a hurry and that causes them to be distracted.
At this time the driver of the van has not been charged or cited in the accident. There has been no indication that either driver was impaired at the time of the accident.
If the driver of the van is charged, they could be looking at a Class A misdemeanor charge. This charge can carry a year in jail, a $2500 fine, and up to 24 months of additional probation time.
The police are still investigating the death of Sariol and the circumstances around why it happened.
