Officer Rosario Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department, Media Relations Section, said the impact of the crash left Guiterrez with extensive wounds that claimed his life at the scene. The medics pronounced the man dead.
The police said that the driver of the westbound vehicle fled the scene on foot, and there’s currently no update on his or her whereabouts. Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Police Department said the medics did not convey any other person to the hospital.
The LAPD has not released the description of the runaway driver, and the investigation remains active. The investigators will release an update when they have more information.
A driver who causes an accident and flees the scene afterward is liable for a hit-and-run under the California Vehicle Code. When a person dies, the person would equally face a vehicular manslaughter charge and would need a car injury lawyer’s service.
