Marrero at 11:58 p.m. Saturday was northbound on Interstate 93 near Exit 42 when he lost control of his van, according to car accident reports. Marrero’s vehicle rolled over into another northbound lane, where it was struck by a second vehicle.
Authorities said Marrero was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle during the wreck. He was transported by emergency medical responders to Lawrence General Hospital, where he ultimately was declared dead as a result of his wounds.
The other driver, identified in a press release only as a 34-year-old Dorchester man, did not report any injuries.
Investigators worked at the scene for some time, prompting a two-hour closure of the northbound lanes of the interstate. Officials with the Massachusetts State Police’s Collision Analysis Reconstruction and Crime Scene Services sections continue to investigate the collision.
Investigators said it still is unclear what led Marrero to lose control of his vehicle. Car accident reports available Monday do not say whether factors like speed or intoxication are thought to have contributed.
