One man was killed and another injured early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle wreck several miles outside Purday, according to State of Washington officials.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jesse M. Kupietz, of Gig Harbor, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, car accident reports from the Washington State Patrol state. Kupietz’s passenger also suffered injuries as a result of the wreck, though those wounds aren’t thought to be life-threatening, authorities said.

Kupietz at about 5 a.m. Saturday was driving east on Washington 302 when he lost control of his pickup truck, according to car accident reports. Kupietz’ truck veered off the roadway, striking the guardrail and spinning out, sending it crashing into several trees.
Kupietz was pronounced dead from his wounds before he could be transported to a hospital by emergency medical personnel. The passenger in his truck, a 38-year-old Bremerton man whose name was not included in car accident reports, was treated at the scene of the wreck for minor injuries.
Kupietz was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, nor was his passenger, car accident reports state. However, it is unclear whether either man was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the incident.
The crash still is under investigation, and authorities have not said what they believe caused Kupietz to lose control of his vehicle. They also have not said whether factors like inattentive driving, speed or intoxication are thought to have contributed to the wreck.
