A Texas man likely will face a manslaughter charge after the passenger in his vehicle died more than one week after being seriously injured in a south Austin crash, local authorities reported Monday.

Samuel A. Williams, 22, was pronounced dead early Monday, about 10 days after he was injured in a March 13 single-vehicle crash on South First Street, Austin police said. It’s unclear whether the wreck caused any other injuries.

Police said Sebastian M. Dean, 23, was driving on South First Street at about 2 a.m. March 13 when he drove through a red light at the intersection of West Oltorf Street. The vehicle slammed into a telephone pole, according to authorities.

Dean was arrested after the wreck on March 13 and charged with intoxication assault, police reported. He was released on bond on March 16 and an alcohol monitor was installed two days later, according online court records.

Investigators said Monday that he now likely will face an additional charge of intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison upon conviction. Court records don’t yet list the new charge, and Dean doesn’t have any upcoming court dates scheduled.

Travis County Jail inmate records do not list Dean as currently in-custody.
