Garrison was traveling beyond the speed limit on Pacific Coast Highway and Anaheim Street. Nguyen sustained severe trauma; he died at the scene, and the medics pronounced him. The DUI driver was taken into custody afterward.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Garrison with murder and multiple counts of felony offenses. They include gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol, causing injury within ten years of another DUI offense.
The driver is facing driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense. Driving under the influence of a drug causing injury with an allegation of causing great bodily injury, also made the charges.
Garrison is a repeat offender with a prior conviction in Minnesota in 2011 for DUI driving. The court set his bail at $2 million, and he had a court date in a Long Beach Courthouse on Thursday. If convicted after trial, the driver faces 15 years to life imprisonment in state prison.
Anyone involved in a DUI accident, either as an offender or victim, should contact a drunk driving attorney for legal representation.
