The call about the accident came in at about 3:01 a.m., and when officers arrived at the scene, they found the man intoxicated. They tried to arrest him on suspicion of DUI, but the suspect failed to comply, and Gonzalez described him as combative. The lawmen then searched Hale’s car and found a loaded firearm.
They placed him under arrest and booked him into the Del Norte County Jail on four counts of resisting arrest, two counts of battery on a peace officer, two counts of carrying a loaded firearm, and one count of carrying a concealed firearm and DUI. The CHP believes that the man was under the influence of drugs but has not discovered what brand.
Hale made bail on the same day of his arrest after he posted the $30,000 bond. There is currently no information on his arraignment, and the investigation is ongoing. A DUI, either of drugs or alcohol, is a severe offense in California, and convicted offenders are liable to imprisonment, a fine, suspension of driving privileges, and compulsory alcohol education program.
